Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
